WATER SECUTRITY

Increasing global temperatures will adversely affect both water quality and supply. Any negative impact on water resources has a direct negative effect on human health. Insufficient water supplies for drinking, bathing, and farming coupled with Earth’s increasing population will present difficult problems to overcome in the future. Water is a key medium through which climate change impacts on human populations, society and ecosystems, particularly due to predicted changes in its quality and quantity.

Much of the world’s population is likely to be directly or indirectly affected by climate change-induced water scarcity, which is related to changes in the amount, timing, and distribution of rainfall, in the supply of glacier meltwater, and in the amount, quality and accessibility of surface and groundwater. Indirectly, climate change also impacts on the affordability of water and sanitation services. Increasing demand and competition over water result rising prices for water.
